Fuel Systems

HIES has vast experience in Fuel Systems environmental management acting as liaison between service station owners and regulatory agencies such as the Department of Health and the EPA. With over 1000 UST closure experiences at various complex sites in Hawaii and the Pacific Rim, the company has expert knowledge of local geological and regulatory conditions throughout the region saving clients valuable time and money. Whether a clean/complex characterization or remedial action site, our in-depth site characterization expertise with innovative current solutions have regularly allowed clients to obtain site closures, no further action responses, or no further remediation determinations expeditiously.

Our company is also experienced with maintenance and monitoring as we at HIES have cleaned some of the largest US Department of Defense Facilities [US DoD]. Including a fuel tank in the Pacific specifically located in Sasebo, Japan as one of its numerous maintenance projects and has monitored large subsurface fuel plumes for the US DoD. Whether a small service station or a large fuel operations facility, HIES has the full service solution. Facilities that benefit from our services may include:

Commercial & industrial establishments

  Service stations
  Fuels terminals
  Bulk storage facilities
Local, state and federal government agencies including DoD
  Fleet operators

Characterization: HIES engineers, scientists, and technicians are specialized in site characterization and saves clients considerably by proven expedited reporting, and analysis processes. Our geologists and hydrogeologists regularly provide site characterization data in the form of a Corrective Action Plan or Remedial Action Plan to our remedial design engineers.

On site interpretation & data generation
  Real time sampling and analysis
  Real time new data response

Best Management Practices: BMP coupled with SPCC, RPCC, OHS, and other related plans, when developed and implemented properly, will help prevent the accidental release of hazardous materials into the environment.

  Document preparation & implementation
  Proven facilities technology
  Training programs & testing
  Client interaction & communications

Testing & Inspections

Tank and line inspection and testing: annual tightness testing, leak detection systems maintenance, and UST dispenser calibration.
API bulk fuel tank and piping inspections:
non-destructive testing using API certified personnel.

Long Term Monitoring:

  Monitors plume movements
Installs and gauge monitoring wells and monitoring systems
Plume analysis through remote sensing, surveying,
GIS Emergency response spill containment system
  Forecasting and statistical plume analysis
  Gauging and sampling

Clean & repair

  Certification of gas
  Free Repair or closure procedures
  Removal of all residual fuels
  Tank replacement or tank closure
  Removal of water and sludge
  New tank installation
   Interior tank cleaning

Maintain and install OWS, AST, and customized extraction systems:
